As we begin 2018, we find it’s important to be prepared and inspired by any expected design trends for the year. Just like many other creative industries, graphic design trends ebb and flow over time, and sometimes may even surprise you. Here are the top eight trends we foresee will be popular this year.
With our ever-changing world, it’s no wonder we’re starting to see designs that create alternate worlds. This creativity invisions escape and features idealized places that are lush, tropical and almost utopic. You’ll see this through unexpected uses of color, giving you a window to places you’d like to escape to.

Duotones were originally created through a halftone printing process, where one halftone is printed on top of another contrasting color, creating a two-toned image. This printing technique has now found its way into digital media. It has been especially popular with the creative execution by Spotify to promote their app and microsites.

It is true what they say, what’s old is now new again. We’ve seen everything from electric hues to pretty pastel color schemes inspired by the 80s and 90s in design lately. This recycled trend is likely linked to the fact that more children of the 80s and 90s have become influential brand leaders and are drawing from nostalgia in their design.

In 2018 you will start seeing bigger, bolder and better typography. Last year, designers already started using artistic effects, extra-large font sizes and huge headlines, and we don’t see it ending in 2018. While sans serifs have largely dominated digital design, we have already started more variety in typefaces used this year.

Ditch the stock photography and make your work feel and look exactly how you want to be represented. With custom photography you will be able to convey the exact emotion and story that is unique for your brand. Not only is original photography more trustworthy, it’s refreshing for the viewer to see something other than the stock they’re used to seeing.
